Sigma Chi’s philanthropy has been one of the most meaningful parts of my experience in the fraternity. Each year, our chapter raises more than $20,000 for organizations including the Huntsman Cancer Institute and USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital through donations, sponsorships, and events. Derby Days is the biggest part of our philanthropy and brings together organizations from across South Alabama’s campus, with around 2,000 people attending the Dance Competition at the Saenger Theatre. Seeing students, alumni, local businesses, friends, and families all come together to support these causes has had a major impact on me and has shown me how much our chapter can accomplish when everyone works toward the same goal. Being involved in these efforts has made me proud to represent Sigma Chi and has made philanthropy one of the most important parts of my college experience.

Being part of Sigma Chi's philanthropy efforts has had a profound impact on my life, shaping my values, and deepening my commitment to giving back to the community. Derby Days stands out as a significant event on campus, demonstrating the incredible strength of our community as we unite for a meaningful cause. It’s truly inspiring to see everyone come together, working around their busy schedules, to support those in need. This spirit of camaraderie is what makes Derby Days so special. It fosters connections and creates lasting memories among participants. I feel honored to continue this great tradition, knowing that our collective efforts make a difference in the lives of others. This year, we have set an ambitious goal raising $30,000 for Derby Days, and I am excited to contribute to this meaningful initiative. I believe that with our dedication, we can achieve this milestone and further our commitment to philanthropy. Together, we can make lasting impact and continue to inspire others to join us in our mission of service.

Serving as the Philanthropy Chair for Sigma Chi has been one of the most impactful roles of my college experience. Leading our chapter's efforts to support the USA Children's and Women's Hospital, the Huntsman Cancer Institute, and other causes has not only allowed me to give back to the community, but it has also pushed me to grow as a leader. Coordinating events, creating new ideas for fundraising, and encouraging my brothers to get involved has taught me the importance of teamwork, creativity, and accountability. Philanthropy has shown me that true leadership is not just about organizing events- it's about inspiring others to rally behind a cause greater than us. Through this role, I have gained a deeper appreciation for service and a stronger commitment to making a lasting impact in both our fraternity and the community we serve.

Since my time in Sigma Chi, I have gained a new understanding and appreciation for philanthropy and the organizations that Sigma Chi supports, such as the Huntsman Cancer Institute and USA Women’s and Children’s Hospital. It has been great to see the effort that our brothers, our campus, and our community consistently put in for our various fundraising events such as car washes, bake sales, and my personal favorite event, the Sigma Chi annual Golf Tournament. This years golf tournament will be held on November 7th at Azalea City Golf Course and is a great way for brothers, alumni, and other members of the community to not only have a good time on the course, but to raise money for the charities that Sigma Chi supports.
